Articles/essays on a sustainable global society in peace.
"Towards realization of Peaceful Society"
Which is easier, war or peace?
For war, you need military, arms, training, patience, and even have
to be ready to face your own death and to kill others. For
peace, none of these are necessary.
You just need to stop these things, and war is over.
Which is the majority, people hoping for
war or people hoping for peace?
Of course, great number of people are hoping for peace. Then
why can't we realize peaceful society?
Why can't we end war?
Which is more successful, people trying hard for war or people trying
hard for peace? Currently, people trying hard for war seem
to have a larger effect.
Let's think about this fact for a minute. Why are they successful?
Do they act individually or do they act in group/network?
Do they make great efforts? Yes, people who hope for war are
small in number, but they have a strong network and make great efforts.
What do we need for peace?
Great majority of people are hoping for peace. For the realization
of peaceful society, great majority of people need to make a strong
network and make great efforts for peace. We need a worldwide
network, sharing necessary information, supporting each other, then
to act and to express "YES" and "NO".
This is "UGC: United Global Citizens" as a worldwide network
: our vision and hope.
What is UGC: United Global Citizens
"United Global Citizens" is a worldwide network to build
a society in peace and harmony. We have proposed this "United
Global Citizens" concept in various
occasions such as Earth Summit (Johannesburg), EURO ENVIRONMENT
2000,
and G-8 Summit in Okinawa(Japan), then obtained support from over
200 NGOs in more than 60 countries. It has past three years
since Earth Summit in Johannesburg and world including Japan seems
to be going towards worse conditions. It is now more important
for us to make further efforts for peace and
aggressively to move towards "United Global Citizens".
"United Global Citizens" is not for special people in
government and doesn't mean a huge building or organization.
It is a network of individuals, the citizens like us, hoping for
peace. It is to connect a local network, and to make them
together a worldwide network, across borders between countries.
There is nothing special about it.
In the network, people can find out various facts and issues to
be solved. We can discuss about common causes and ways to
solve the problems. We can start with doing what individuals
can do. Everyone can speak out, know the facts, and contribute
the society. In this way, we can realize a sustainable society
in peace, a society which the citizens desire. This is civil society.
We hope to build a real civil society in near future.
