*Companies with the designation S are subsidiaries.
|
|
* With US$ 975 billion, it is possible:
|
| <Debts> |
- to cancel all debts of Heavily Indebted Poor Countries: $401 billion
61 countries are classified as low-income countries, including Afghanistan and Cambodia ($401 billion).
40 countries are classified as highly-indebted countries that cannot
pay their debts because of poverty, including Vietnam, Ethiopia and
Somalia etc ($220 billion)
*Medical supply, health and welfare can be improved by eliminating large amount of debts.
|
| <Weapons>
|
- to abolish arms in the world: $172 billion (Monterey International Institute)
- to abolish nuclear weapons: $60 billion (US: $30 billion, Russia: $20 billion)
- to eliminate chemical weapons: $50 billion (US: $15 billion, Russia: $15 billion)
- to purify land polluted by chemical weapons: $50 billion
- to eliminate ordinal and small-scale arms: $12 billion
*The total abolition of weapons can be achieved with a half of military expenditure spent by the U.S.A.
*It is unpredictable as to how long it will take to purify and recover lands contaminated by nuclear weapons.
It is clear that nuclear weapons shall be abolished right away.
|
| <Land Mines>
|

- to remove all land mines buried in the world: $33 billion
110 million of land mines are currently set in the world.
$300 or more is required to remove a single mine.
It means that it would be possible to remove all land mines with $33 billion.
(In Afghanistan, there are 10 million of land mines, which can be removed with $3 billion.)
->Removal of land mines brings people safe life.
- to give artificial legs and hands to all the victims of mines: $0.3 billion
250 thousands people are wounded by land mines.(500 thousands including dead ones)
25 thousands are sacrificed every year.
Therefore, it would be possible to give them artificial legs with $0.25 billion.
|
| <Afghanistan>
|
- to reconstruct Afghanistan: $25 billion (UNDP etc.)
There are 7.5 million refugees in and outside of Afghanistan.
It is estimated that $25 billion is required to provide safe life to all Afghans.
It is equivalent to a half of Japanese military expenditure and one tenth of that in the U.S.A.
|
| <Food>
|
- to provide food for a year to starved people (around 800 million): $98 billion
$1 can supply three persons of food for a day (FAO)
|
| <Social Budget>
|
- to provide supporting things like tents and blankets to 20 million refugees in the world:
$0.1 billion (UNICEF etc)
- to prevent children from losing their sight because of lack of vitamin: $20 million (WHO)
- to provide basic education to people all over the world: $6 billion (World Watch Institute)
- to provide safe drinking water and sewage equipments to people all over the world:
$9 billion (World Watch Institute)
- to provide health and hygienic expense for birth to pregnant women all over the world:
$12 billion (World Watch Institute)
|
| <Desertification> |
|
- to prevent the earth from becoming to the desert:
$8.7 billion (The United Nations Convention for Combating Desertification)
|
| |
|
In this way, we could solve all issues mentioned above with annual military budget
of the world when it is used for peaceful, humane and environmental activities.
