About... The Network Earth Village
The Network Earth Village was established
in Osaka, Japan in 1991, as a non-governmental, non-profit organization
for environment and peace, working towards realizing a sustainable
society in peace and in harmony with the environment. It was accredited
by the United Nations' ECOSOC with "NGO
in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council
of the United Nations" in May of 2002.
The Network Earth Village, is a world-wide community network for
citizens and peoples, working together to help resolving many of
the current world issues such as starvation, poverty, wars, environmental
degradation from its root-common cause.
Objective: Realization of Peaceful and Sustainable Society

(Begin now by what you can do as an individual, at a community-level,
national-level
and on a global scale. Many on-going campaigns and projects on
multiple levels to take concrete actions.)
3. EXPRESS and WORK TOGETHER: Express Opinions and Collaborate
(Collaborating, proposing and working together with various civil
society organizations such as other NGOs, business firms, local
and national governments, and international bodies such as the
United Nations)
Activities in Japan
- Hold various lectures, seminars, workshops and symposiums nationwide
- "Stop Global Warming Campaign" a website oriented
campaign to reduce CO2 emissions (stop-ondanka.com
- the term "ondanka" is Global Warming in Japanese
!) You can input your household electricity, gas, and water usages
and will immediately calculate how much CO2 you have emitted and saved
!
- Propose environmental-friendly policies to resolve environmental
issues, such as voicing out against environmentally destructive
dam constructions and public works
- To demand a shift in Japanese Government's energy dependency
from nuclear energy, to safer and more sustainable energy sources
- Open Questionnaires to political candidates concerning positions
on environment
- A national-level peace campaign, calling out to prefecture and
city governments, as well as local municipalities nationwide,
to adopt a resolution to oppose against the Japanese Government's
support for the United States military actions. (over 700 local,
prefecture and city governments have adopted opposing resolutions!
)
Activities Overseas
- Humanitarian assistance of BHN(Basic Human Needs) and self-support
programs for the Afghanistan Refugees
- Participating in COPs (United Nations Framework Convention on
Climate Change, Conference of Parties) as NGO to appeal for stopping
global warming
- Participating in international conferences such as European
Environment Conference, to propose and call for a citizens network
on a global scale, a United Global Citizens, working together
in achieving environmental sustainability and world peace.
- Participating in United Nations Earth Summits, and especially
WSSD (World Summit on Sustainable Development) in Johannesburg,
South Africa, 2003, where we called for further networking with
United Global Citizens, and presented our collection
of "Peace Messages" from 250 local municipal and governmental
representatives in Japan to the Secretary General of United Nations,
Mr. Kofi Annan. (which we have received an appreciation letter.)
